Mowden Hall School's House System

Mowden Hall School's House System

Mowden Hall School's house system is an integral part of the school's identity, fostering a sense of belonging and camaraderie among its pupils. Each house, named after distinguished Northumbrians - Bewick, Collingwood, Grey, and Stephenson - is home to pupils from all year Prep School groups, creating a vertical integration that promotes inter-age friendships and mentorship.

The house system is not merely a social construct; it plays a pivotal role in shaping the school's culture and enriching the learning experience for all pupils. Each term, a variety of activities and competitions are organized, ranging from sports tournaments and academic challenges to creative workshops and outdoor adventures. These events foster teamwork, sportsmanship, and a competitive spirit, while also providing opportunities for individual recognition and achievement.

The house system also serves as a mechanism for pastoral care, providing pupils with a support network that extends beyond their immediate classroom environment. Heads of House, supported by House Captains, are dedicated to nurturing the well-being of their charges, offering guidance, encouragement, and friendship. Our current Heads of House are Mrs Whittle, Mr Hill, Mr Townley and Mr Hartley.

In a small school setting like Mowden Hall, the house system serves to amplify the school's community spirit, fostering a sense of belonging and shared identity among pupils. It breaks down the barriers of year groups, encouraging interaction and collaboration between older and younger students. The house system also provides a platform for leadership development, empowering pupils to take ownership of their learning and contribute to the wider school community.

In essence, the Mowden Hall School house system is not merely a collection of activities and competitions; it is a vibrant tapestry of experiences that weaves together the school's ethos of care, community, and personal growth.
