Mowden gathers for Remembrance Service

The Mowden School community came together on Tuesday for its annual Act of Remembrance

The Reverend Linda Hunter led the service, which started in the grounds of our church, St James', in the village of Newton.

Pupils from Reception to Year 8 gathered with staff, parents and friends of the school, outside the church for a poignant two minute silence. This was marked with the playing of the Last Post by Mr Fowlds, assisted by Hugo B and Fred U. During the silence, poppy petals fell from the sky as another mark of respect to those that have fallen.

Inside the church, Edwin W and Matilda C read excerpts from ‘In Flanders Fields’ by John McCrae and ‘We Shall Keep the Faith’ by Moina Michael, respectively. There was a bible reading from Alice G and also one from our Operations Manager Major (Retired) Lee Gray, Royal Artillery. At the end of the service, Clementine F lay a wreath at the foot of the war memorial in the church.

The school choir led us in a beautiful rendition of All Will Be Well, with hymns also sung by the congregation.
