The Mowden Hall Nursery Department

Preprep 198sm.jpgA very warm welcome to the Nursery Department, the first, very exciting step in your child's education.

Before your child begins Nursery, they will have the opportunity to spend some time here,  either with or without parents. We hold a parents evening for new Mums and Dads and offer a home visit for your child too.

The Nursery is open every day during term time from 8:30 a.m. Our pupils start their Nursery Year at the age of three. They attend Nursery for a minimum of five mornings. We offer a full day option too. Pupils can remain at Mowden for a delicious two-course lunch and an additional afternoon session in the Nursery. Our day finishes at 3:45 p.m. Our maximum number of pupils is sixteen, with one qualified teacher, one Nursery Assistant and a Gap Student help.

The Nursery Department is housed in an attractive bungalow close to the Pre-Prep Department. We have four rooms, which we use every day. We begin our day in the Quiet Room. Here the children can enjoy a huge selection of puzzles; games and books, helping them settle quickly every morning. They can use the emergent writing table, the computer and enjoy the occasional use of the television.

We use the Art and Technology Room to explore paint, collage, clay and building kits, sand and water play. We have an impessive array of art equipment for the children to discover and enjoy. The children are encouraged to develop their manipulative skills with carefully chosen activities and adult encouragement. Our Playroom is well equipped with an extensive range of toys to develop social interactive play. Our playhouse takes on the guise of a castle, a shop, a home, hospital... depending on out chosen topic.

We have a fully equipped Classroom also. We use this teaching space every day to introduce basic Numeracy, Language and Scientific learning. All our children are introduced to the Oxford Reading Tree and the Jolly Phonics Schemes. We aim to encourage an enthusiasm for learning in an exciting educational environment.

We also have a fully equipped kitchen on site that allows us to cook and bake with the children and to prepare a healthy snack for them twice a day. The kitchen has access to the shared play yard, complete with sandpit, slides and climbing frames. We make good use of the fabulous grounds and wooded areas for walks and nature activities. We make sure that the children are taken on an extensive list of outings and visits throughout the year, from Chinatown to railway stations!

Our Nursery is full of confident, happy and busy children - but why don't you come and see for yourself. Our best advertisement is the children themselves. We welcome visits at any time, to suit you and your child. We look forward to meeting you.
