Choir rehearses twice a week. The Choir prepares a repertoire of anthems to sing in church every Sunday and also performs in major concerts throughout the year. Concert Band: There are two Concert Bands in school (Senior & Junior) with rehearsals on Tuesdays and Thursdays. By the Summer term these two groups are combined. Members gain valuable experience in the discipline of working as a team. We aim to perform in as many of the music workshops and formal concerts as is possible throughout the year. We also prepare music for the Mowden CD, recorded every other year. Jazz Ensemble: The Jazz Ensemble meets every Monday after lunch. Trumpets, trombones, saxophones and clarinets combine to play a range of jazz styles. These are mainly arrangements from the AB Jazz syllabus. Members learn to play as a section, and also develop skills in improvisation. Play Ensembles: Whenever there is a school play (Years 6-8) an ensemble is formed to provide the incidental music. Music is written specifically for the players and is designed to test their skills under pressure. Brass, Flute and String Ensembles all rehearse regularly throughout the year. Musicians gain valuable experience in ensemble playing. Assembly Bands: In each of the three assemblies a group of musicians accompany the set hymn, playing arrangements in five parts. This regular playing improves confidence in sight-reading and performing under pressure. | |
