Personal Social Health & Economic Education, And SMSC

PSHE and Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural education is an important subject through which pupils develop the knowledge, skills and attributes they need to keep themselves healthy and safe, and prepared for life and work.

Here at Mowden Hall School, we promote spiritual, moral, cultural, mental and physical developments to all our pupils.

Our new and exciting programme of study; JIGSAW PSHE develops pupil's aims to develop skills and attributes such as resilience, self-esteem, risk-management, team working and critical thinking in the context of three core themes: Health and SMSC, Relationships and Living in the wider world.

It has been created using the most recent government regulations, alongside the United Nations Convention on the ‘Rights of a Child’. The Convention applies to EVERY child without discrimination, gender, religion, language, abilities or any other status. UNICEF works with schools across the UK to promote a rights-based approach. They share good practices in improving outcomes for children.

Therefore, Mowden Hall School community uses the 45 UNICEF Children’s rights to learn, teach, practice, respect, protect and promote all aspects of PSHE+SMSC.

We include the statutory Relationships and Health Education (RSE) within our whole-school PSHE Programme.
To ensure progression and a spiral curriculum, we use Jigsaw, the mindful approach to PSHE, as our chosen teaching and learning programme and tailor it to your children’s needs. The mapping document below: Jigsaw 3-11 and statutory Relationships and Health Education, shows exactly how Jigsaw and therefore our school, meets the statutory Relationships and Health Education requirements.
Our PSHE/RSE policy ensures we are always using the most up-to-date teaching materials and that our pupils and teachers are well-supported.

It is safe to say that PSHE+SMSC is delivered to our pupils in an exciting, light, fun, interesting way that captivates and inspires many an in-depth debate or discussion!
