Year 5 had a very informative tour of Durham Cathedral, a World Heritage Site and one of Europe’s greatest medieval buildings on Thursday morning. After the short drive to Durham, we all walked up through the town in lovely morning sunshine. Our guide explained why some parts of the building are so enormous and awe-inspiring. We watched Gabriella being transformed into a Bishop before our eyes, as she donned the necessary regalia and we all posed with her in front of the High Altar. We visited St. Cuthbert’s tomb and had lunch in the cloisters, where some parts of the early Harry Potter movies were filmed. We saw the incredible model of the Cathedral, to which Isabel contributed last year. In the Education Centre, we re-enacted a baby’s baptism, with volunteers stepping up to be Mum, Dad, God Parents and of course the Vicar! We were shown how Holy Communion is ministered to the congregation.
