Boarders Trip to the Whitley Warriors Ice Hockey
Sunday saw the boarders heading off to Whitley Bay for an exciting evening of ice hockey. The Whitley Warriors were hosting the Solway Sharks, a crucial match for the Warriors following some recent defeats. The boarders were installed in their ring-side seats in time for the warm-up and some musical motivation, while they tucked into their packed teas. The Warriors were first to chalk-up a score but the Sharks soon responded with two goals of their own, a lead they were able to hold during the first two periods. Before the third period got underway, some of the younger members of the crowd took to the ice to take part in a goal-shooting competition. Our very own Sam was lucky enough to be picked and, despite his first attempt not quite finding the back of the net, he was successful on his second go. The third period of play was an intense affair with a number of players being sent to the sin bin. However, the Warriors managed to score two more goals in the dying minutes to finish the equal the score by the time the final whistle went. Any chills the boarders may have had where soothed away with hot chocolate on our return to Mowden and everyone had really enjoyed a fun evening.
