Welcome from the Headmaster
Thank you for your interest in Mowden Hall. We are a leading co-educational IAPS preparatory school for children aged three to thirteen. At Mowden Hall, we aim to ensure that children are happy. We believe that through such a framework we can achieve an atmosphere in which each child will flourish.
The formative years of your child's education are extremely important. The experience gained at this stage is fundamental in helping to shape and determine their views, attitudes, values and general outlook. In an ever changing world where traditional values are being constantly challenged and eroded, we believe that an education rooted in firm Christian principles is as relevant now as it ever has been. We place emphasis on good manners, courtesy and considerate behaviour, thus fostering respect for peers and adults alike. We believe in allowing children to be children.
Mowden Hall has high expectations of the children in terms of academic achievement. Small class sizes, together with high quality and committed staff, many of whom are residential, ensure that children receive close attention. Children leave Mowden Hall to continue their education at many of the country's leading public schools.
Achievement in the classroom is crucial, though at Mowden Hall we are not driven by academic results alone. The School gives children a rounded and broad education in which each child discovers their talents and fulfils their potential. We introduce children to a wide range of opportunities. In particular, there is a strong emphasis on music, drama, sport, art and outdoor pursuits. Mowden has a good record of achieving a broad range of scholarships to senior schools. These include academic, sports, music and all-rounder awards.
Boarding is central to life at Mowden Hall. My family and I live in the very heart of the School, and we are fully involved in all aspects of its life. We believe that boarding helps children achieve independence, gain confidence and above all learn the value and importance of being members of a community. The experience that the children gain by visiting Sauveterre in France for a term in Year 7 further reinforces these ideals.
A visit to Mowden Hall will reveal the School's happy, purposeful atmosphere. My wife, Sarah, and I would be delighted to welcome you and introduce you to our best ambassadors - our pupils - who will tell you for themselves about their lives at Mowden Hall.
