Tynedale Point to Point
This Sunday the boarders went just down the road to the Tynedale Point to Point, just outside Corbridge. After missing the heavy rain which hit many parts of Northumberland earlier in the week, the weather gods were smiling on us, as the forecast heavy rain didn’t arrive until the seven-race card had finished. The main action was preceded by two pony races sponsored by Mowden. The 138cm-and-under contest over four-and-a-half furlongs went to Ninfield Millionaires Splendour, ridden by 12-year-old Elliot Stockwell. The 148cm-and-under contest over six-and-a-half furlongs was won by 13-year-old Archie Fox on Judge Fox, with Carrowmeer Nick (Sarah Longhorn). Everyone loved getting their picture taken with the winners and presenting them with their rosettes and their bag of sweets for the best turned out pony, as voted for by the boarders. The remainder of the day was filled with watching the races, walking the course, buying sweets from the on-course stall and catching up with old Mowdenians, who were out in force – it was lovely to see Xanthe. The action didn’t stop even once the racing had finished – getting off the damp grass proved too much for Mrs Martin’s minibus and Mr Bailey, Mr Hadfield and Mr Laithwaite helped with a push and we were once again on our way. Once we landed at school we relaxed a little and enjoyed a fantastic roast pork evening meal – the perfect way to top off a day at the races!
