Despite many being new to their responsibilities, as always there was lots of pupil participation at our enjoyable first service of term in St James’ Church, Newton. Following the brisk walk from school on a fresh but fair Sunday morning, the novice Churchwardens ensured all was in order at the start of proceedings. An extract from St John’s Gospel, and prayers relevant to our own, and the worldwide community were intelligently read by five Y8 girls, while the Choir, as well as leading the congregation in four well-loved hymns, gave a spirited performance of ‘Swing Low, Sweet Chariot’. During the Headmaster’s thoughtful address, Octavia was required to don a fresh item of clothing for each of the various attributes we need to harness each day to maintain positive, helpful and loving relationships, resulting in her becoming increasingly unrecognisable!
After the service, visitors were invited for refreshments at the Baileys’ house.
