Mowden Hall Sevens - March 2008

IMG_1107alt.jpg
Overall winners - Newcastle R.G.S., beating Merchiston 38-7 in the final
Plate winners - Mowden Hall, beating Tynedale RFC 31-17
Stottie winners - St.Olaves, beating Durham 26-10

It is worth nothing that Mowden Hall, winners of the Plate competition, only lost one game, to Newcastle R.G.S. who were the eventual winners of the competition. R.G.S. themselves did not win their group and neither did Merchiston who they played in the final.

Cundall Manor Sevens Tournament

Cundall 5.jpg

On Wednesday 30th January, the 1st Sevens squad took part in their first competition; the squad finished runners-up in their group and thus progressed to the Shield Competition (the main one). In the quarter-finals, they faced Aysgarth (until then with a 100% record at fifteen level or sevens) and duly beat them 5-0. In the semi-finals, the boys beat the hosts Cundall Manor 21-7 and then played Red House in the final. The Yorkshire boys came out eventual winners 21-7 but our Mowden boys should be proud of their achievement in finishing second overall: BRAVO.

1st XV v Belhaven (H) - Wednesday 10th of October

After they arrived we went down to the pitches to warm up. We won the toss and chose ends. We started well moving the ball along the line nicely and we scored an early try through Kyle which was converted and we went into the break 7-0 up. We had an enthusiastic team talk and went out determined to improve our lead. We didn't start too well giving away too many penalties. After a while we started to play to our potential scoring to more converted tries. We kept them out for the rest of the game.

The final score was 21-0 to us. We are happy with this result, but we know that we can play better especially in the rucks and mauls. We would like to thank Mr Weldon and Mr Hill for coaching us and the spectators for supporting us.

1st XV v Craigclowan (A) - Saturday 6th October

The 1st XV travelled to Fettes to play Craigclowan . We warmed up, won the toss and chose ends. We stared well keeping them out with good defence but after 20 minutes there was still no score. We were awarded a penalty in their 22 which we kicked at goal so we went into the break 3-0 up. We had an inspirational team talk and went out determined to extend our lead.

We didn't start too well giving away an unconverted try but we had a sudden burst of energy in which we scored 2 converted tries. We kept them out for the rest of the game with good defence. The final score was 17-5 to us. We were very pleased with this result. We need to work on our scrumaging for our next match against Belhaven on Wednesday. On behalf of the team we would like to thank Mr Weldon and Mr Hill for coaching and the spectators for supporting us.
