Rounders U 11 v Hunter Hall

On Wednesday 28th April an Under 11 A & B rounder’s team travelled by coach to Hunter Hall for the first matches of the season.

The A team played first and began the innings fielding. Mowden had little opportunity to get the opposition out, only managing one run out at second post, but we did manage to keep their score down to 2.

Millie was the first to bat for Mowden and with a well placed first shot, ran a full rounder. From then on, much like Hunter Hall, none of the Mowden girls were out in their 24 balls, but again the scoring was low at 2 ½ rounders.

When Hunter Hall batted for their second innings, Mowden’s fielding was more reliable and batters were stumped out at first and third post. Both Millie and Lily took a catch. Hunter Hall’s final score was 5 rounders.

Mowden knew they needed to bat harder and be quicker thinking if they were to score enough rounders to win. Feeling braver the Mowden team swung harder and ran faster. Full rounders were scored by Millie, Rebecca and Rosie, whilst half rounders were scored by others. Upping the risks meant a few batsmen were out but, more often than not, the risks paid off and Mowden finished this innings as comfortable winners. The final score was Hunter Hall 5, Mowden 10.

We must practise all the skills and learn to remain alert in order to improve our play.

Our thanks go to all who made this match both possible and enjoyable.

The score was 9½ to their 5. In the second innings we batted well scoring 11½ rounders. We fielded well, keeping their score down to 5. The final score was 21 – 10 to Mowden.

U11 Rounders team v Sedbergh J.S.

On Saturday the 22nd May the U11 rounders team played Sedbergh Juniors at home. We batted first, scoring 13 rounders, with 3 run by Rebecca. They gave us lots of half rounders by bowling too many no-balls. We fielded well, bowling their team out for 3 ½ with 13 balls to spare. The second innings was like the first. The final score was 23½ - 5½ to Mowden.
