    Netball Match Reports 2009-10

    Under 11 A Team Netball v Westfield

On Wednesday 3rd of March two under 11 netball teams played against Westfield at home. The A team made an excellent start and Rebecca scored their first good goal very quickly. With good passes and accurate shooting, 2 further goals were scored by Rebecca and Lily. Westfield managed only 1. Our defence in the second quarter was strong. Preventing any score against us, Mhairi scored two goals for us. We continued to play well throughout the 3rd quarter, making some superb interception and good passes and Tarynn scored 3 goals and Minna scored 1. Our spatial awareness improved. At the end of this quarter the score was a pleasing 9-1. Sadly, in the last quarter our standard of play dropped, with only one goal scored by Rebecca . The final score was 10-1 to Mowden. We were really happy with this result and hope that our improved play continues.

    Under 11 B team Netball v Westfield

While the A team played. The B team also played on the far court against Westfield. In the 1st quarter we played evenly and no one scored. But in the 2nd quarter our defence was weak so Westfield scored 3 goals. We defended quite well in the 3rd quarter only letting in 1 goal. In the final quarter we did not let them score at all but sadly we did not score ourselves. We need to work on our rebounds. The final score was 4-0 to Westfield.

Under 9 netball v Durham Choristers

On the 26th of February the under 9 and some of the under 10’s B team played Durham Choristers at home. We lost the toss and chose ends. We started well with the ball mostly in their third. Iona did very well by scoring a goal. Sasha made the final push to make the score 3-0 to Mowden Hall. In the second quarter Poppy did brilliantly by scoring three goals! And Iona scored another goal too. Meanwhile Durham Choristers were trying very hard to get the ball down to their end but are defence held them back strongly. As we entered the third quarter we were well ahead in the game. Lara scored a goal which put the score at 8-0. In the fourth quarter we did not score any goals but we had really good defence. The full time whistle went and the final score was 8-0. On behalf of the team I would like to thank the spectators for supporting us and Mrs Knight and Mrs Debil for coaching us and the kitchen ladies for the lovely drink and biscuits.

Under 11 netball v Central High

On the 1st of March the U11 netball team played Central High at home. We warmed up and started to play. In the 1st quarter we started off well intercepting lots of passes, and because of this Tarynn and Delilah scored 2 really good goals, but unfortunately we let them score a goal. In the 2nd quarter we did not play so well but Mhairi still scored 2 really good goals, but we did allow them to score one goal. We came back strongly in the 3rd quarter, determined to score some more goals; we had the ball down our end for a bit of the quarter and Becky scored 3 really good goals but they scored 2 as well. We played well in the last quarter with Tarynn scoring 2 goals and Lily scoring 2 goals as well. This meant the final score was 11-4 to us. On behalf of the team we would like to thank Mrs Debil for coaching us and umpiring the match and the kitchen ladies for a lovely team tea.

We lost the toss and they chose first centre pass.We started off badly doing some sloppy passing and let them shoot but fortunately they missed. Soon we got the ball up our end and had a go at shooting but missed. In the second and third quarters, they scored three goals. As the game continued, we got better and in the last quarter Emily scored our first goal. Soon after this, Indigo scored another two. The final score was 3 all. We need to work on our marking, but we played well and enjoyed it very much, even though we got very wet!!!

In the last few seconds when Cundall were just about to shoot Jemima intercepted but the game had just ended. Then we went off for a good team tea. The final score was 5-2 to Cundall Manor. Under 10 Netball V Cundall Manor

On Wednesday 4th November the Mowden Under 10 Netball team also travelled to Cundall Manor. Having watched the under 9 game, we prepared for our High Five match as the rain began to fall. To our surprise, 7 Cundall Manor girls took their place on the court and as we have never played 7 a-side Netball, this was to be a problem. Following discussions between the umpires it was decided that Mowden would play the 7 a-side game on the understanding that it was for fun only. We did not know the different rules, and we certainly did not know what a wing was! It was therefore no surprise that, despite our efforts, Cundall were leading 4 - 0 after the first quarter. Due to the rain, which was heavier by now, we had a quick and wet team talk before we started the second quarter. In this quarter Minna managed to score once, but Cundall also managed to increase their score by two. After 3 minutes of play, due to the extremely heavy rain, Mrs Debil stopped the game. Gathering all our wet possessions, we went inside for our team tea. Although we all enjoyed our trip out, we were disappointed by both the weather and the match confusion. Our thanks go to the staff who accompanied us on this fixture.

    Minna Dundas / A.Debil

Under 11 netball match v Westfield

On Wednesday 7th October the under 11 A and B netball team travelled to Westfield. The under 11 A team warmed up when we got there, and started to play. We started off really well with a good goal scored by Rosie . In the next quarter we played really well with Mhairi scoring 2 goals and Millie scoring one, after an encouraging team talk. We went back on to play; in this quarter Westfield marked us a lot more tightly so we did not score a goal. In the last quarter we played well scoring 3 more goals but letting Westfield score one. On behalf of the team, I would like to thank Mrs. Debil for coaching us and umpiring the match and the spectators for supporting us.

    By Rosie C-N

    Under 11 B Netball v Westfield

On Wednesday the 7th of October the u11 B team played Westfield away. We won the toss and chose first centre pass. After some good passing down to our end Lucy Murray-Wake scored our first goal. We didn't play as well in the second quarter although we did some effective defending. The whistle blew for half time. The second half started quite well but they slipped through our defence and scored a goal. With Lottie doing some good interceptions it stayed out of their quarter for a while however they managed to get it through and score another goal. The whistle blew and the final score was 2-1 to them. We need to work on our throwing, catching and footwork. It was a good first match for Minna who was representing Mowden for the first time. We would like to thank Mrs Debil for coaching and driving us there and back.
