Aysgarth Spirit of Football Tournament
Our U11 boys competed in the Aysgarth Spirit of Football Tournament on Wednesday 3rd March. Our A team were entered but we got a call just before departure to see if we could take a B team at short notice. This we agreed to do.
The A team competed well in the tournament winning two games, drawing two and losing one in the group stages. They finished second in their group and won through to the third place play off which they won.
The B team didn’t win any matches but drew two and so did not go through to the next round. They were awarded the good sportsmanship trophy at the end of the competition. This was an excellent result for our B team who were put together at a moment’s notice. Well done to the players, captained by Alex Reynolds.
Notable success on the day: Orlando Bridgeman scored six goals on the day and a hat-trick in one game.
Football Under 9 A - Cundall Manor
On Saturday 6th February, the Under 9 A team played Cundall Manor. Caspar scored a goal for Mowden first, but then Cundall scored three goals, making the score 3-1 at half time. The second half was better, with Patrick scoring, but unfortunately we conceded two goals making the final score 5 – 2 to them.
We need to mark our opponents more tightly in future.

Football Under 9 C - Cundall Manor
On Saturday 6th February, the Under 9 C team played Cundall Manor at home. We lost the toss and chose ends. We started well passing well enough to approach their box., but their defence held tight and we were driven back. The ball was in our half for several minutes and we really struggled to hold them off. We came back at them and Charlie scored. After that, we grew in confidence and the ball was kept up in their half. Soon afterwards, Alasdair scored; it was 2 – 0 but the balance changed again and we struggled to prevent them from scoring. We soon drove them back, though and Charlie scored again. The half time whistle went and when we came back on, we became lazy and allowed them to score. We finished off well, and Charlie completed his hat-trick. The final score was 4 – 1 to Mowden.
