National athletics in Birmingham - June 29th 2009
On the 28th of June, six girls set off for the National athletics in
Jessica and Saskia were on first. Jessica threw well and held her nerve in her discus. She got into the final, and came fifth overall. Saskia through a personal best of 8 meters 52 in her shot event, overall coming seventh.
We had a look around and watched some of the events. Honor was next with her javelin. She threw well but just didn't make it into the final coming ninth. Ffion was next. She led through out most of her 300 metres race and was just pipped on the line with the winner getting a time of 43.4 and Ffion getting a time of 43.5. Eliza had to wait till five a clock for her javelin event. When it eventually came, she found it tough and unfortunately didn't qualify for the final. Ffion went up for her presentation and was awarded her silver medal. We stopped off for supper at an Italian restaurant and then headed back to school.
We arrived back at school at about 1:30am and slept in sick bay. It was a great day and was a great experience for us all. We would like to thank Mrs White and Mr Debil for coaching us and taking us there, Mrs Thompson for letting us stay at her house, and the kitchen ladies for a packed snacks and breakfast.
Ffion Thompson.

Harry was in a tough group and unfortunately didn't qualify. Ben ran a brilliant race and led throughout most of it, but was very unlucky not to win and qualify.
