Girls Games

Girls' sport plays a large part in the life of a Mowden pupil. We offer a wide range of sport to every girl. The major games we play are hockey, netball, cross country, biathlon and swimming in the autumn and spring terms and athletics, tennis and rounders during the summer term.

Both individual options and a great variety of clubs compliment these team sports. Girls have the opportunity to take part in badminton, table tennis, judo, golf and there are also a wide range of outdoor activities available throughout the year.

Facilities: There are two grass hockey pitches, three netball courts, three tennis courts, an indoor heated swimming pool, a 400 metre athletics track and three rounders pitches as well as a fairly large sports hall/gymnasium which is used for Physical Education lessons including gymnastics and dance, and can also accommodate club activities.

Teams: Matches in all the major sports are played on a regular basis against other prep schools as well as the various state and independent schools in the Northumberland and Newcastle area. The Under 13 hockey team won the Northumberland League and Cup tournament this season and the Under 11 team were runners-up in their competition. We take part in the North East Prep Schools athletics trials and several of our athletes qualify for the National Competition, usually returning with medals.

Although we take great pride in our achievements at local, county and national level, we also place emphasis on good sportsmanship at all times.
