Sauveterre février 2010
I have come out to see how the Sauveterre group are getting on half way through their term, before they set off for their exciting week skiing in the Pyrenees.
Apart from a few coughs and colds, they are all in fine form and are lapping up their experiences here in south-west France.
There has been a spate of birthdays - (today it is Tara Houston's) so supper has been ending with delicious gâteaux and Champony each evening this week.
On Wednesday, we all went to Toulouse to visit some interesting museums and to see around the city. We were shown round the Hôtel d'Assezat, which houses an impressive collection of works of the late 19th and early 20th century. we were privileged to see works by Monet, Pissarro, Canaletto, Lautrec and many other great artists.
We had a fantastic lunch in a lovely traditional city centre restaurant, "Au Gascon" and afterwards, we split into groups and went round the market and shops.
On Tuesday, I took the opportunity to sautée up some cuisses de grenouille as part of the Sauveterre supper, which received a mixed response!
Tonight (Thursday) the children will perform their second concert of the term before finishing off their work for the first half of term, then packing suitcases for the short journey on Sunday to Vielha, over the border in Spain and skiing at the excellent resort of Baqueira Béret, where the snow is exceptional this year. Bon ski!
