BBC 21st Century Classroom

The Yr 2 and 3 children have studied the work of Roger Hargreaves this term, looking at the style of the author and creating a brand new character of their own. Armed with these, we went off to a radio workshop in Blyth, run by the BBC. The children spent the morning using the recording equipment to convert their stories into radio podcasts, all taking part in reading, holding the microphone and using the headphones to check the recording was going along smoothly. After a delicious lunch in the sunshine on the quayside, we were back indoors to learn how to edit using a very fancy computer programme. It was wonderful to see how easily the children learnt the skills as they were soon splitting and splicing the recording to edit some of the mistakes that they had made during recording. The end of the day came too soon, back on the coach we could hear the chatter of how the day had gone, all the laughs (when Flora got the hiccups during recording!) and the fun they had. It was a truly wonderful experience, how lucky we were to be part of it!
