Many children were involved in making our Palm Sunday Service at St James’s Church, Newton very special. The readings and prayers were delivered with great clarity, while the poignant anthem ‘Morning Glory, Starlit Sky’ was beautifully sung by the Choir, maintaining the high standard they have set this term.
A mixture of rousing and contemplative hymns reflected the bittersweet nature of the occasion, splendidly accompanied by Mowden instrumentalists led by Mr Fowlds; during ‘Sing Hosanna’ Rev. Sample led the entire congregation, holding up their Palms, in a procession around the church. Her address, which featured a lively ‘University Challenge’ style quiz, concluded with a challenge of a different kind – to use Holy Week to think about how we treat others. After the service, coffee for parents and visitors was served in the Headmaster’s house.
