Outdoor Activities
Here at Mowden we are blessed with a fantastic site, which allows tremendous opportunities for our children to take part in a whole range of outdoor activities. On-site we have a climbing wall, a swimming pool which can be used for canoeing and an adventure course in the woods. The extensive landscape even allows our groups to camp in the grounds.
We strongly believe in providing valuable outdoor pursuits experiences for our pupils of all ages. This includes activities at weekends for our boarders and expeditions for all in years 6, 7 and 8. This year, the year 6 pupils will spend three days in the Lakes, camping and taking part in climbing, hill walking, orienteering, gorge walking and problem solving. The year 7 pupils will have the same opportunities, but in north Northumberland, and the year 8 pupils will spend a week in Dumfries and Galloway and take part in a wider range of activities. These important adventures provide our pupils with the opportunity to demonstrate leadership ability and work with others in groups. Quite often, these experiences are remembered for life. The children at Mowden are therefore made aware of the associated risks and enjoy the benefits of outdoor pursuits in a safe and controlled environment.
Groups of children also enjoy an outdoor adventure possibly potholing in North Yorkshire, exploring the mines of Northumberland or climbing and abseiling local crags. The active outdoor programme at Mowden Hall serves not only to enhance each child's esteem, but to provide a diverse variety of exciting experiences, the essence of prep school life at Mowden.
