On Sunday, the school was able to celebrate fully the fabulous new all-weather facility that the Astroturf pitches on the top field now provide. Mr Bailey was delighted to welcome Charlotte Childs, an Under 21 Great Britain hockey player to cut the ribbon and officially to declare the Astroturf well and truly Open! She also brought along Mr Simon Lee, her hockey coach at Durham University. The two of them conducted a hockey masterclass for the children on the superb new surface.
There were several familiar faces of children and parents from Mowden’s recent past, who were all involved in the planning and preparation of the new pitches. They too had a chance to play on the pitches in their own match and our thanks go to all who contributed to the funds, which enabled the project to go ahead. In the meantime there was a delicious hog roast and lots of lovely, tasty snacks laid on for everyone on the pitch side.
