One of the oldest plays written in the English language was performed in our Tuesday service in St James’ Church recently. The actors, all from Mowden’s Year 7, retold the story of Noah, his wife, Deus and Deabolus, not forgetting their friend, Angelus. The costumes were splendid, the carefully arranged music very fitting and the actors performed in the original language with extraordinary confidence. This Miracle play was perfomed, according to the oldest records, in Newcastle-upon-Tyne in the ordinary of the coopers in 1426.
