Matfen Hall Christmas Concert
On Thursday 10th December, the Choir, Concert Band and Readers performed in front of a large and very appreciative audience of parents, families and friends of the school, with a varied and original set of Christmas and some less seasonal pieces. The Great Hall was looking beautiful, with an enormous Christmas Tree and many of the musicians had adorned their instruments with sparkling decorations to help brighten up the atmosphere!
Guests were treated to a selection of Christmas Carols as they arrived, played by a group of flautists in the Entrance Hall. Some popular Congregational Carols were accompanied by Mick Fowlds' Christmas Concert Band who also played "The Sweeney" and the theme from "Mission Impossible."
The Choir sang a variety of pieces, two of which were composed by our own Choirmaster, Andrew Passmore: "In the Bleak Midwinter" and "A Great and Mighty Wonder" are now two familiar Christmas favourites with the Mowden Choir and the audience.
After the concert, there was a drinks reception for the audience and perfomers. Our thanks go to the staff of Matfen Hall and to Sir Hugh and Lady Anna Blackett, for their kind permission to use the Hall again.
