Leavers’ Service

Leavers’ Service 7/7/17
On the penultimate afternoon of term, children, staff, family and friends gathered at St James’ Church, Newton, to bid the 2017 Mowden Leavers a fond farewell.  Inspiring readings, both sacred and secular, and thoughtful prayers clearly and confidently delivered by the children complemented the enthusiastically sung hymns which included Parry’s uplifting ‘Jerusalem’.  The Choir reprised a favourite anthem, I the Lord of Sea and Sky, performing with great musicality and conviction.
The Year 8 Parents surprised their offspring, and delighted everyone, with their own musical offering – a clever and charming re-write of American Pie, full of poignant and humorous recollections.
This was also the final service for the school Chaplain, Rev. Fiona Sample, whose involvement with Mowden, including as a parent and instrumental teacher, spans nearly 30 years.  We wish her well – along with all the children and staff moving on to new challenges and opportunities.
