Year 3 went to the Hare Krishna Centre on Westgate Road, Newcastle to visit the Hindu temple. The children were treated to all kinds of sensual and spiritual experiences. They were finding out about some of the Hindu gods, about musical instruments dances and songs, and the mystical smells ; they tried on brightly decorated clothing, such as turbans and saris and had decorations painted onto their forearms, such as the Aum symbol or delicately patterned flowers. All in all it was a fascinating and uplifting morning and the children learned an enormous amount through all the activities. Our thanks go to HG Kurtida and the Hare Krishna Centre for letting us come and find out about their culture.
