The Hexham Abbey Carol Service opened with the traditional hymn, “Once in Royal David’s City,” which was begun with a note perfect solo first verse, sung by Magnus Hextall, followed by the Choir, who processed from the West Door as the congregation joined in with the third verse. The carols and hymns were divided up by the clearly and confidently delivered readings of the Nativity Story, by the winners of the school Reading Competition, Isla Dinsdale, Louie Zuch, Molly Robeson, Cecilia Wishart and Henry Bateson.
The Pre-Prep Choir sang their two pieces with full gusto and beautifully, drawing a round of applause! The Prep School Choir also performed very well. The main Choir had many pieces to perform, which they did to a high standard and the Concert Band accompanied the Congregational Hymns along with the Organ, played by Hexham Abbey Organist, Michael Haynes, to whom we are most grateful. Mrs Roberson was naturally delighted with the performance of her choirs as was Music Director Mick Fowlds.
