A 5.30am wake up call on Saturday 11th June did nothing to dampen the Year 8 spirits, and after a quick breakfast, we were heading to Ambleside to participate in the half mile Great North Swim competition.
On arrival, the weather was truly terrible, and an incredibly long walk to the start ensured we were absolutely drenched before getting anywhere near Lake Windermere. We also quickly realised that putting a wetsuit on when you are already wet is particularly difficult… Thankfully, with a little bit of help from our friends, we made our way to the start of the race, and before we knew it were swimming in the lake.
Everyone did brilliantly, and we received many lovely comments from other swimmers about the Mowden children and their positive approach. The atmosphere at the end was very special, and I am sure the children will treasure the memories of completing this event with their friends, for many years to come.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the staff and parents who made this event both possible and worthwhile. It could not have gone ahead without such superb support from all involved.
