Whittle Dene walk
On Saturday the 17th of May, the fourth and fifth years full boarders went to Ovingham for a walk in Whittle Dene.
We travelled on a minibus for a short journey, and then we walked out of the village and through a field and up the hill. Then we went into the woods, walked down a steep hill and saw lots of cut down Silver Birch. Mr. Lord said that this was coppicing. Liam kept on eating wild garlic leaves because Harry and Matthew told him you could eat them.
When we walked farther it got more interesting and we saw a ruin which someone had turned into a little house and made an instrument, called a xylophone, and we all had a go on it. He had also made a bench and some chairs.
Eliza and Rebecca picked wild flowers, which Mr. Lord said they shouldn't have done. Rebecca slipped in the stream and got lots of water in her wellie boots, and when we got back we emptied Rebecca's wellie boots out - there was a lot of water! We would like to thank Mr. Lord for taking us and Miss Cashmore for accompanying us.
