Year 7 - Great Salkeld-50

On Friday the 21st of May, the year sevens and Mr Hill, Mrs Morrill, Mr Lord and Mr Dewing set of to Great Salkeld in the Lake District for an expedition. When we arrived we unloaded the trailer and set our tents up.

After we had lunch Eliza, Tara and James were told to go separately with some coloured sheep wool and make a trail. After about forty-five minutes the rest split into groups and searched for the three people. Tara was found first, then James, but Eliza was not found.

Then we went into our tent groups and were given an egg. We had to wrap it up with paper, toilet role and sellotape; so that when we dropped it from a tree onto rocks it would not crack. Only one egg cracked. After that, we all went fishing in the River Eden. No one caught anything but it was good to have a go.

The next day we packed our day sacks and drove to the bottom of the mountain, Blencathra. We split into two groups one with Mr Hill and Mrs Morrill, and one with Mr Lord and Mr Dewing. After a long steep climb we reached the tarn, which is a small lake in the middle of the mountains. There we had our lunch.

After a determined walk up the rest of the mountain, we finally reached the top. On the way back down it was a lot easier and didn’t take much time. Mr. Lord’s group went down a steeper route. At the bottom Mr Hill bought us all ice-creams and cold drinks as the weather was scorching.

On Sunday we packed up the tents and packed our bags. We played some fun games with Mrs Morrill, then set off back to Mowden. We all enjoyed this trip and our very thankful to Mrs Thompson for letting us use their field.
