Trip to the Sage, Gateshead

On the morning of Tuesday 6th March the 6th and 7th years in the choir set off to the Sage in Gateshead for a singing workshop and a practice before the evening performance.

When we arrived at the Sage we met all the other schools, including Libby Paxton and most recognised people we had previously played in matches. Three ladies took us for our singing workshop. We warmed up by doing some funny moves and then making rhythms up in rounds. After the rhythms we sang jazzy gospel songs. Once we got good we started in rounds with the senior schools singing the harder harmonies.

We stopped for a snack and a drink and we were then told to go through to Hall One for a practice of the songs we were singing in the evening. The songs we sang were called Adiamus and Tintinabulum. The words to these songs sound like a mixture of Latin and African.

Once we had finished the practice we went back for, games and afternoon lessons. We had an early supper and set back off to the Sage for the real performance. We had one run through then took our seats on the stage.

We watched the excellent performances' of the Durham School Concert Band and Stage band which were playing pieces like Tikila and Sailors' Hornpipe and then a superb drum duet. Before we knew it, it was our turn. We sang songs which the audience appreciated greatly. Bow school sang two songs by themselves which were good. Mr. Spencer, Mrs. Barnes and some Mowden parents really enjoyed our performance!

At the interval we set off back to school. On behalf of the choir I would like to thank Mr. Bryant for organising such a wonderful opportunity for us.
