Classics Day at Fettes

Classics Day at Fettes College

On Friday the 6th of November the 8th years travelled to Fettes College, where we were greeted by a Roman soldier and refreshments. We were then shown to our first activity. We were split into legions with other schools; the activities were:

  • Storytelling
  • A show of Roman artefacts and marching
  • Treasure Hunt
  • Drama

After two activities we had lunch, which was a 'Roman Banquet' with sandwiches and grape juice. We then had two other activities until we were summoned to the Roman gladiatorial fight with words. Each school had two gladiators but the grand final was between 5 gladiators. Mowden had two out of five of the finalists, Barley and Katie. It was a close end; Barley came second and Katy came fourth. We had some more refreshments and left. We drove back to Mowden and had a packed tea. On behalf of the Year 8s I would to thank Mr Weldon for driving the minibus, Fettes for a packed tea and the kitchen ladies for getting up earlier for our breakfast.
