    Meeting Alexander McCall Smith

On the 4th of March Year Three and some of Year Four, boarded a coach to go to Scotland to meet the famous author, Alexander McCall Smith. He has written a book about Precious, a detective, who lives in Botswana. He has also written about a boy called Akimbo; he is a popular adult author too. It was a long bus journey and most people felt sick.

After about an hour we stopped at the border of Scotland and England. The sun was shining beautifully and we saw a skier coming down from the Cheviot Hills. We had a quick snack. Soon afterwards we arrived in Jedburgh and had our lunch in a park over-looking the Abbey and river. Then we went to Walter Scott’s view, overlooking the river Tweed and some volcanic mountains older than the dinosaurs.

After we had finished looking at the view point, the bus driver took us to the Sugar gallery which was a little barn next to the Main Street bookshop in St Boswells. We soon met Alexander McCall Smith and he had a competition and some people won £5!!!

His new book is translated into Scots, we met the translator James Robertson and had fun learning some new Scots language.

Soon after they signed our books and then we went into the book shop to spend our book day vouchers.

Then we drove home with the sun shining and Sam snoring!
