House Singing Competition – Tuesday, May 4th 2010
The challenge this year was a little harder for each house; the House Captains were asked to pick one of four Beatles hits for their house to sing as a compulsory song and the other song was chosen by them. The Beatles songs were selected one week and one day before the competition and only four rehearsals were scheduled in that time; so the pressure really was on to prepare the songs.
On the day, the quality was just as good as in previous years and the invited adjudicator enjoyed all four performances, awarding first place this year to a delighted Stephenson House.
The four houses sang the following songs:
Bewick
“Penny Lane” The Beatles
“Mamma Mia” Abba
Collingwood
“Hey Jude” The Beatles
“Eye of the Tiger” from the film, Rocky
Grey
“Michelle” The Beatles
“All that Jazz” from Chicago, the Musical
Stephenson
“Eleanor Rigby” The Beatles
“The Hippopotamus Song” Flanders and Swann
