Spanish Night

Spanish Night-18.jpg

The night of Saturday October 4th saw Mowden's very own Spanish Extravaganza.

The children spent much of the late afternoon putting the finishing touches to some spectacular costumes. There were flamenco dancers, banditos, Spanish sports stars and even a guest appearance from Zorro! The dining hall was bedecked in red and yellow and provided the perfect backdrop for the year 8 girls to entertain us before the meal with their very own dance tribute to Spanish culture. It sat somewhere between traditional flamenco and modern day, Ricky Martin inspired, Latino Rock. Well before they had finished the aisles were already full of children and staff alike joining in with their rhythmical dancing.

The food itself was traditional Spanish with a modern twist. Paella, tapas, spicy chicken, kebabs, profiterols and orange crepes were among the dishes washed down with a tasty apple punch. After feasting so well the children's minds were put to the test with a tricky Spanish quiz before the best costume competition was judged. Both could have been won by any one of a number of children.

The Spanish theme continued after supper with the opening night of The Mowden Odeon showing 'The Legend of Zorro' complete with popcorn and drinks.

It was a very enjoyable evening, made all the more so by the effort everyone put in, from the food to the costumes and from the decoration to the entertainment it was first class all the way. Roll on the next themed supper.......20,000 Leagues Under the Sea!!
