This year's Reading Competition captured some exciting and moving sporting moments from history and literature. The finals took place each morning this week at 8.30 in the theatre in front of the whole prep school.
We were privileged to meet our independent judges, who spoke with great feeling about the readings they heard. His Honour, Judge Cartlidge presided over the Year 8 competition on Monday. Mr Phil Anderton judged Year 7 on Tuesday and Year 5 on Thursday. Mr Beardmore-Gray judged the 6th Years on Wednesday and Mrs Kay came over from the Pre-Prep to listen to the Year 4 readers on Friday.
Year 8 read an extract from White Heat. It described Geoff Hurst's last minute goal in the 1966 World Cup Final.
Year 7 read an extract from The Prelude, by William Wordsworth, which described the sensations felt by an ice skater.
