Strains of the Chorus of the Hebrew Slaves from Verdi's Nabucco filled the Mowden theatre when the Lakeland Opera Workshop company visited Mowden Hall on Thursday 12th February. Assisted by four professionals, including director/opera singer Yvonne Fontane, and choreographer Tanya Cusan, the senior choir was introduced to this well known chorus, with the aim of using the words and emotions of the song to see how they could be expressed through movement.

The workshop offered the children a wonderful introduction to opera, as an art form which combines great music with dramatic stagecraft. The music had been prepared in advance of the session, working with an English translation, to ensure that best use was made of their time with the professionals.
