All the children enjoy Music, Swimming, PE and French lessons with specialist teachers and have full access to the School facilities. These include outdoor areas with age appropriate play equipment and space for growing flowers and vegetables. The children are taught in the gym, the indoor heated swimming pool, the Theatre and the ICT suite. Year 3 are taught History, Science, Drama, ICT and Art by specialist teachers and all the Pre-Prep classes have interactive whiteboards and access to iPads. The children also take part in the wider school life, for example, school assemblies, performances and activity days.
The children in the Pre-Prep visit the Woodland Classroom for outdoor learning at least once a week. There, the children learn about nature and their wider environment with the freedom to explore and investigate at a more leisurely pace. Activities include den building, toasting marshmallows on an open fire and searching for mini beasts. In the Woodland Classroom the children learn skills for life such as balanced risk taking, collaboration and creative thinking.
In some cases children’s special needs are temporary and will respond to additional support (mainly in English and Mathematics) very quickly.
If the class teacher identifies a need for support in a child they will discuss this with parents. Ideas for support at home may be given or a child may work with a teaching assistant in the classroom. This often helps children overcome any difficulties. However, if there is a longer term concern the child may begin to work with the School’s Learning Support Co-ordinator and a programme of support may be worked out involving the class teacher and parents.
This is a parent and child fun, active play programme which is led by a qualified early years gymnastics coach. It has been designed to develop children’s motor skills, agility, balance and co-ordination to music. For children 18months to 4 years.
