Church and Worship
Mowden Hall is fortunate to have its own delightful, small country church a short walk from the main gates. Most Sunday mornings, the boarders walk up to St. James' Church, where we attend a shortened version of the Book of Common Prayer Morning Service. We have a visiting preacher most Sundays and the school choir sing a new anthem at each service. Parents and relatives are always warmly welcomed and are invited to coffee after church back at the school.
Special services are held to mark important occasions, such as Remembrance Sunday, Harvest Festival and Advent.
Occasionally, we vary the programme, by holding our service on a Saturday morning, which enables the day children and weekly boarders to attend our service. We also hold a House Service in the school theatre once a term.
The Christmas Carol Service is held on the last day of the Christmas Term in Hexham Abbey, which is a magnificent location for the whole school and all parents to celebrate Christmas.
Assemblies are held three times a week in the school theatre. The assemblies are based on Christian themes, including hymns from our own hymn book, prayers chosen, written and read by the pupils and an address, reading or performance prepared by various members of staff, usually involving children in some kind of performance.
