On Sunday 7th October, we took 9 girls from Years 5-8 to QM School for a dance workshop. They began with a Ballet class, warming up at the barre before moving in front of the mirrors for some centre exercises. After building up an appetite, we went to lunch and a quick tour of the Year 9 boarding house before heading to the theatre. Here we were treated to several performances from some of QM’s Upper Sixth girls; we were all amazed by their excellent dancing! Freshly inspired we returned to the studio for a Hip-Hop class; the girls stretched and practised their leaps across the room. Having now tried both disciplines, they split into two groups and moved on to a couple of choreographic sessions: one Hip-Hop and one Ballet. The girls were made to feel really special getting to choose their costumes for each of their dances, from beautiful white Romantic tutus to spangly neon green unitards. They finished the day by performing their choreographed dances in the theatre in front of everyone who had helped them throughout the day and the headteacher of QM, Mrs Miles. A big thank you in particular goes to Mrs Leadley (Head of Dance at QM) and her wonderful Sixth-form helpers for all their help and encouragement; it was a truly fantastic day and the girls have been buzzing about it ever since. We will definitely be heading back next year!
